to the distraught dilletante
Ira Glass on Storytelling from David Shiyang Liu on Vimeo.
To all jaded and disillusioned, to the downtrodden and heartbroken, to the fallen and beaten.
To those whose pain has been used to exact the elixir of another’s craft, stolen and stillborn amidst a pigeonholed public mesmerized by the litany of the perpetrators. To those who have given so much, only to realize that they still fall short in the end. To the perplexed and perturbed, purgatorial spirits who seek meaning in the wasteland of our reality, the collapsing consciousness of a life meant to be lived but remaining unrealized.
To those whose work was deemed trivial and adjuvant, a small cog in the complex labyrinthine mechanism of sanctioned human slavery. To the creative mind that lays only cracked, rancid eggs, despite the pitiful labor it entailed to borne these. To the pregnant intellects, yearning for emotional validation in a world that refuses to be meritocratic; continually extorting the ideas from their rightful originators and expelling them diluted, skewed, and unrecognizable from the pureness of its intent.
To the lethargic drones that walk blindly across the urban dystopia, whose dreams have been hollowed by the failure of a system to reward the industrious and skillful, and punish the underhanded, maleficent, self-righteous thieves of this earth. To the toiling talented, and distraught dilettantes searching, pining, yearning for an opportunity to explore their unrealized potential. To the great that’s entangled in the claustrophobic web of apathy, the prevalent culture of mediocrity, and the unrelenting strain of pragmatic survivalism.
This is for you.
